The Sarasota City Commission will discuss the terms of a lease extension with G.WIZ Science Museum tonight at its regular meeting, in the wake of a suggestion by Commissioner Shannon Snyder to relocate the museum from its bayfront location to attract a high-profile tenant to the bayfront next to another city-owned parcel.

On April 5, Snyder suggested the city hold off on selling a vacant parcel at 1000 Blvd. of the Arts, which he said would help the city and the museum, restructure a better long-term lease somewhere else in town.

The commission will also hear tonight from St. Armands Circle Business Improvement District officials, which are seeking a 10-year extension of the Circle’s taxing district to pay for future improvements that include a Circle parking garage and the burying of power lines around the Circle.

The meeting begins today at 2:30 p.m. and reconvenes at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 1565 First St., Sarasota.
