Sarasota Brides and Formalwear gave away 12 dresses at Brides Across America Monday, July 15, a nationwide charity that provided free wedding gowns to military brides. To qualify, brides must be engaged and on active duty in the military or have a fiance who is on active duty in the military. The bride or their fiance had to have been deployed in the last five years to Iraq, Afghanistan, Bahrain, Libya, Qatar, Kuwait, Korea or Japan. This was the second year Sarasota Brides and Formalwear put on the event and they will do so again next year.

Firefighters and police officers rolled up their sleeves Saturday, June 13, at Westfield Southgate Mall for the 8th annual Boots vs Badges campaign to donate blood to Suncoast Community Blood Bank. The goal is to raise 300 pints of blood during the friendly competition between officers and firefighters July 13 to 27. Community members choose who they want to donate for. 'We need to take care of our full time residence,' said Mayor Shannon Snyder who donated blood for Badges after being with the sheriff's office for 25 years.

Team Leader of Sarasota K-9 Search & Rescue and co-founder of the organization Pat Abrams brought in her 3-year old search and rescue German shepherd Ana and a 17-week old pup in training Kaleb. Abrams also read a book from her series 'Noah and the Search Dogs.' Children learned what these heroic dogs do and fed them treats. They also made a dog yarn craft.
