As the country celebrates its 250th anniversary, the public also has a chance to take a look at Sarasota's history.

Last year, Thomsen Fine Art hosted a series of paintings that formerly hung in the SRQ Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport.

Gallery staff worked with Ciera Coleman, the city's public art administrator, to ensure these art pieces remain accessible and do not disappear into private collections.

The result is the "Echoes of Sarasota" Cultural Heritage Exhibition.

Eight works by Regan Dunnick and three by Frank Hopper are now on display at City Hall, while three additional works, one by Hopper and two by Dunnick, are on display at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall.

The paintings feature familiar landmarks of Sarasota while honoring its history, and the exhibition is set to remain on display for a year.
