Dec. 19 Private matter 12:26 p.m. - 6200 block of GMD. Trespassing. A man reported that a fishing boat captain docked his boat on the man's private dock and allowed his dog to relieve himself on the lawn before leaving. The captain was informed he was not allowed to walk on other people's property without their permission.

Nov. 23 License liability 10:21 a.m. - 5300 block of GMD. Reckless Driving. A Longboat Key woman was issued a ticket for failing to drive in a single lane after she was observed swerving all over the road, running at least five cars off the road, almost hitting a bicyclist and almost hitting two parked cars. The woman told police she felt fine and doesn't have any health problems. Police decided to submit the woman for a re-examination of her driver's license.

Nov. 19 Nap time 9:59 a.m. - 100 block of Broadway. Suspicious Vehicle. Police observed a man lying down in a sport utility vehicle parked at the Broadway public beach access. The man told police he was early for an appointment at a real-estate office and had pulled over to take a quick nap.

Nov. 10 Shopping switch 12:51 p.m. - 600 block of Buttonwood Drive. Lost Property. A woman reported that while in a grocery store she misplaced her tan purse, which included a white alligator-skin wallet. Store employees reviewed store tapes and discovered the woman mistakenly put some dairy items in the wrong shopping cart. Her original cart and purse were located.

Nov. 5 Undercover 11:25 a.m. - 3500 block of Fair Oaks Court. Suspicious Circumstance. Police responded to a report of an unconscious person under a quilt in a vacant home. The unconscious person, however, turned out to be several boxes of junk that resembled a person.

Oct. 27 Iguana get my figurines back 700 block of Dream Island Road. Larceny. A real-estate agent reported that two exterior ceramic iguana wall figurines were missing from one of his client's homes. The multi-colored iguanas are valued at $100.

Oct. 20 Stairway surprise 3:50 p.m. - 4400 block of GMD. Theft. A man reported that his bicycle was stolen from inside his condominium stairwell. The man last saw the bicycle in August. The building maintenance supervisor said that numerous contractors and workers have been in and out of the building over the past months.

Oct. 12 Safety first 7:30 p.m. - Off the Key. Traffic Violation. Police pulled over a juvenile for riding a motorcycle without a helmet on Longboat Pass Bridge. It was discovered the boy was riding a moped, but he still received tickets for driving with a learner's permit only and not wearing a helmet.

Oct. 11 Cooking crisis 5:05 p.m. - 600 block of Norton Street. Domestic Violence. A man called 911 to report that his wife would not allow him to make a sandwich. The wife told police that her husband was drunk again and gets "stupid" when he's drinking. She also told police he would push her against a wall when he's drinking. He was arrested for trying to walk away from police and transported to jail.

Sept. 18 Relocation plan 9:23 a.m. - 2900 block of GMD. Animal. The Public Works Department informed police that a large and aggressive bee colony was discovered near someone's home. Police roped off the right of way where the hive was located, and a beekeeper was called to relocate the hive.

July 31 "Dancing fool" 7:12 p.m. -- Off the Key. Disturbance. Police told several people to stop jumping off the south end of Longboat Pass Bridge. They were also told to turn their radio down and that it was illegal to drink beer on the island. As police started to walk away, one young man wearing a thong and holding a beer came out from under the bridge and started to gyrate his hips, telling police to come and get him. Police called for the police boat and the man was arrested after he started to incite the crowd by his drunken behavior. The man, who threatened to have his father get the officer who arrested him fired, later apologized for his actions, blaming the incident on too much Schnapps and vodka.

July 15 Mysterious message 7:24 a.m. - 4800 block of GMD. Suspicious Circumstance. A man told police that he believed someone entered his condominium, while he was sleeping in his recliner with the television on, and left a scrolling message on his laptop that read, 'Ah, love the beach, you should turn off your TV. It wastes so much electricity.' An open screen door and smudges on a sliding-glass door were also noted.

Police stopped the bicyclist, took the 3-foot dead rat snake from him and promised to give it a proper burial.

A man called to report he was the victim of a drive-by fruiting. While driving south on Gulf of Mexico Drive, he reported he heard something hit his passenger window and then saw a mango lying in the road while two juveniles ran away from the scene. Their parents promised it would not happen again.

May 29 A little off the top 8:49 a.m. -- 500 block of Ranger Lane. Property Damage. A man told police he wished to make a formal complaint after realizing that his neighbor's gardener trimmed a bush 6 inches past the property line. Police reprimanded the gardener, who told police he was not licensed to perform trimming skills. The neighbor was exasperated by the situation, telling police it wasn't "a big deal."

A business card was left on the windshield that advised the owner that an ordinance exists that prohibits motor-home parking for an extended period of time.

May 17 Real Christmas-tree car scent 1:56 a.m. -- 600 block of GMD. Traffic Violation. Police pulled over a woman leaving the Chart House parking lot late at night. It was discovered the woman was a receptionist for a real-estate agency and was working late. Police, however, found it odd that the woman had a dead Christmas tree lying in the back of her car. She said it was too heavy for her to carry.

April 22 Lager left behind 6:59 p.m. -- 100 block of GMD. Code Enforcement. A man told police that the cold can of Heineken beer sitting nearby was not his. He then raised it to his lips and said he would drink it anyway because someone had left it behind. He was issued a written warning for drinking a beer on the beach in front of police.
