Six years ago, John Loughlin asked Jeff Deane how they could honor the Masters Tournament.

At first, the two of them donned visors and long pants and played a round of golf to recognize the famous tournament.

Now, their group has grown, and they hope to work with a charity in the future. This year, 24 players participated in the “Mini Masters” on April 5 at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Course.

“Not everyone knows one another, and by the end of the day, they do, and so it’s just … tradition is part of the theme of the Mini Masters,” Deane said.

Each player received a visor with the Masters’ logo, but only one of the participants earned the coveted green jacket. This year, Bruce Myer won the jacket. Myer also won the Rich Goldwater Mini-Masters Memorial Trophy.

“We conceived this to provide good camaraderie and good fun,” Deane said. “It didn’t matter what level of golf you played.”

Jonathan Hande, senior avian hospital technician with Save Our Seabirds, demonstrates how NOT to hold a brown pelican when bringing it in for assessment at the bird rescue organization. Anyone handling an injured pelican should keep an ideally gloved finger between the bird's beak to keep the bird restrained without inhibiting its ability to breathe.
