You know what they say.
It isn't over until your principal goes down a giant inflatable slide — or something like that.
Such was the case on July 27 at Alta Vista Elementary School during the schools sixth annual Eagle Fest. Principal Barbara Shirley waited in line among her anxious students and climbed the inflatable slide as her students and staffers waited at the bottom, eyes peeled and cameras ready.
Her descent did not disappoint onlookers, who had gathered at Alta Vista to celebrate the ending of the schools summer Eagle Academy.
The six-week program prepares students for the upcoming school year during the day, and offers continued education opportunities for parents in the evenings.
On July 27, the work was clearly over as children bounced from one activity to the next.
"As much as I would love to say that this is all my doing, there are some people that deserve recognition," Assistant Principal Holly Heim said.
Event organizers Jackie Ekstrom and Allison Walker said the event was all about the families.
"(It's to) show appreciation to the families that attended during the summer," Walker said. "It's just a fun way to wrap it all up."
