Sarasota, Manatee county offices close for Thanksgiving

Longboat Key residents will have to do without a few government services during the four-day Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

In Sarasota County, government offices, including libraries, Sarasota County historical resources and recreation centers, will be closed Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday. 

Libraries will be open Saturday and other county offices will reopen Monday.

There will be no Sarasota County Area Transit bus service Thanksgiving Day. Full service will resume Friday but the SCAT administration office and the downtown transfer station customer service window will be closed Thursday and Friday.

 For residents whose regular collection day is Thursday, yard waste, recyclables and garbage will be collected Friday. For residents whose regular collection day is Friday, yard waste, recyclables and garbage will be collected Saturday.

Collection times vary. Residents should place refuse materials at the curb by 6 a.m. the day of pickup.

In Manatee County, garbage collections take place one day later for the remaining days this week. Regular collection days resume Monday. Any regularly scheduled Thursday pickup will occur Friday, and Friday's pickup will occur Saturday.
