Plan your Future: Career Fair
Runs from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Selby Public Library, 1331 First St. High school students, recent graduates and members of the community are invited to meet with professionals and higher education representatives about career options and education programs. Admission is free. Call 861-1131.

YPG After Hours
Runs from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Seasons 52, 170 University Town Center Drive. The Young Professionals Group invites interested professionals to attend the area's largest monthly networking event. Make new friends, secure new clients, and learn more about what Sarasota has to offer over drinks and bites. Admission is free for members and $10 for guests. Siesta Key Chamber of Commerce Networking Lunch

Photographing Cuba
Runs from 7 to 9 p.m. at Waldemere Fire Station Meeting Room, at 2070 Waldemere St. The international exchange club Friendship Force of Sarasota invites the community to learn more about the island neighbor to the south with a travel talk about Cuba. Fine art photographer Lynne Buchanan will present “Photographing Cuba” from a 10-day trip throughout the cities of Santiago, Baracoa and Havana. Admission is free. RSVP with Gary at 320-6557. Cine Selby: Brazil
Starts at 2 p.m. at Selby Public Library, 1331 First St. “Found Memories,” a film by Julia Murat is about an encounter between a village bread maker and a visiting photographer that has a profound effect on the two women's lives. The event will also commemorate Brazil's Independence Day. Admission is free. Call 861-1175.

Saturday, Sept. 5
Literacy Amongst the Trees
Runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Oscar Scherer Park, 1843 S. Tamiami Trail. Oscar Scherer State Park will host "Literacy Amongst the Trees" in celebration of International Literacy Day. This family-oriented event will feature story telling by local authors suitable for all ages, followed by book signings and sales, literacy activities, and a book swap for all ages. Mote Aquarium $6 Saturdays
All day at Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium, 1600 Ken Thompson Parkway. To celebrate the 60th anniversary for Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium the price of admission will be reduced for every Saturday in the month of Sept. (5, 12, 19 and 26). Admission will be $6 for Florida residents with up to four people in a group. Call 388-4441.

Music Archive Musical Film Series 
Starts at 5 p.m. at Selby Public Library, 1331 First St. This month features “Speaking in Strings” by Paola Di Florio. This real-life documentary explores the passionate and energetic presence of renowned Italian violinist Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg. Admission is free. Call 861-1175.
