The Players Club Longboat Key, 1425 Gulf of Mexico Drive, is in the midst of a $1.3 million construction project that will create a new 3,900-square-foot social center for the condominium's residents this season.
Available only for for owners and renters, the new clubhouse will include a fitness center with machines and free weights, library, multipurpose rooms for banquets, meetings and events with a state-of-the-art kitchen, as well as management offices for staff. The exterior of the building will feature a wraparound veranda, covered patio, an outdoor entertaining area with grills and a fire pit, and all new landscaping.
J.E. Charlotte Construction Corp. began demolition in early June on the existing 30-year-old, 2,000-square-foot clubhouse and office and adjacent raised deck areas. The project will encompass approximately 8,000 square feet and is slated for completion at the end of December.
The approval process for the new social center began at the end of 2013.
Players Club residents gave input to help design and provide input for the new facility during town hall meetings and various committees, including an interior design committee with six residents and outside design experts developing the social center’s décor.
Players Club residents approved the project in August 2014, with only 27 out of 134 units voting against the project.
“We worked through this process to make an outstanding and unique neighborhood feature,” said Howard Frank, president of the Players Club condominium association.
Originally built between 1981 and 1983, the Players Club is comprised of four midrise buildings offering two- to four-bedroom residences.
