Obituary: George Barnes

George Barnes, 89, of Bradenton, died Aug. 11.

Born Aug. 8, 1925, in Tiffin, Ohio, he was a U.S. Army veteran who served in World War II, then spent two years in the U.S. Merchant Marines.

Mr. Barnes married Margaret “Peggy,” and they spent 50 years together. They moved to Bradenton in 1969, and Mr. Barnes worked for 15 years at Anheuser Busch Co.; he retired in 1988. After retirement, he worked as a security guard for 20 years at Fairway Bay until Mrs. Barnes’ death in 2008.

Mr. Barnes was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret “Peggy.” He is survived by his son, Scott Barnes, of Bradenton; two granddaughters; and one great-granddaughter.

A memorial service will be held Aug. 23, at Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory, in Tiffin. Condolences can be made at engleshookfuneralhome.com.
