Smoke brings firefighters to jail

The Sarasota County Fire Dept. responded to a report of smoke coming out of a vent at the Sarasota County Jail this afternoon, and concluded that it was likely caused by an air condition system malfunction, according to Battalion Chief TJ Broom.

Four fire trucks, three ambulances, and five fully uniformed firefighters waited in front of 2020 Main St., while emergency personnel investigated the five-floor facility. Broom said the scene was at 4:23 p.m.
