The city of Sarasota will celebrate Arbor Day 8:45 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. Friday at Sarasota High School, 1000 South School Avenue, Sarasota. A Florida native tree will be planted in a median along Championship Drive near School Avenue. Students will plant the tree with assistance from city staff. Mayor Suzanne Atwell will present a proclamation declaring Arbor Day within the city of Sarasota.

The city of Sarasota takes pride in its commitment to preserving and enhancing its urban canopy. The National Arbor Day Foundation has recognized Sarasota for the past 26 years as a Tree City USA. Trees help reduce heating and cooling costs, prevent erosion, produce oxygen, purify rainwater, and provide habitat for wildlife.
