Now that it has a permanent home on the bayfront, Unconditional Surrender’s supporters want to make sure visitors know the history behind the sculpture.
Tom Savage, founder of the Sarasota Public Art Fund, will place an educational sign at the base of the sculpture that explains that famous moment in Times Square when a sailor and nurse shared a kiss at the end of World War II.
The sign also honors Unconditional Surrender’s sculptor, J. Seward Johnson, and the man who bought the artwork and donated it to the city, Jack Curran.
