Feb. 28 Tired of it 4 p.m. - 1900 block of South Osprey Avenue. Suspicious Incident. Complainant said when he returned to his car in a parking lot, he noticed someone had let the air out of its right front tire. The man believes an elderly man, who likes to watch the parking lot, is to blame.

Feb. 22 Stunt woman 4:52 a.m. - 3000 block of Wood Street. Suspicious Incident. A woman was seen hanging off a man's car while he drove down the street. She reportedly fell off the car. Police arrived and tried to talk to the woman, but she said she did not want to file a report. She said her ex-boyfriend had moved into her home the previous day, but he was not going to stay there any longer.

Feb. 15 Card shark 2:35 p.m. - 3800 block of South Tamiami Trail. Petit Theft Shoplifting. A greeting-card store employee caught a middle-aged woman stuffing four or five cards into her purse and walking out the door. She was driving a Lexus SUV but didn't want to pay for $15 worth of cards. They were Hallmarks, so the thief cared enough to steal the very best.

Feb. 7 Midnight meeting 1:36 a.m. - 5000 block of Circled Oak Drive. Grand Theft Auto. When a father went to check on his 15-year-old son about midnight, he noticed the teen was not asleep in his room and, in fact, he was not in the house at all. His wife's car was also missing. The mom called the Sheriff's Office and told them to search near the boy's girlfriend's house. Sure enough, there was her son ... and her car. The boy was arrested.

Feb. 1 Dog dazed 3:50 p.m. - 4000 block of South Tamiami Trail. Theft. An employee of a store that sells puppies said a man with a toddler walked into the store and began playing with a 10-week-old dachshund. The man asked the employee what it cost. The employee allowed the man and child to play with the puppy while he left the room to check on the price. When he returned, the man and child were gone. A customer walking into the store said he just saw a man hurry outside with a dachshund stuffed in his shirt. A check of the store revealed a dachshund was missing. Someone was able to get the man's license-plate number before he could drive away.

Jan. 15 How do you spell relief? 1:25 p.m. - 1000 block of Central Avenue. Public Urination. A police officer saw a man relieving himself against a building, just two feet from a sidewalk busy with passing pedestrians.

Jan. 17 Clean freaks 5:30 p.m. - 8400 block of South Tamiami Trail. Shoplifting. Four 20-something men were walking together through a supermarket. They were acting suspiciously and were headed toward the exit carrying a bag. An employee asked if he could look in the bag. One man dropped the bag, and all four men scattered and disappeared. Inside the bag - two bottles of Dove body wash.

Jan. 7 Sweet little girl 9 p.m. - 8200 block of South Tamiami Trail. Battery. A 13-year-old girl began yelling at a 14-year-old girl, because she didn't like the way that the older girl looked at her. The 14-year-old turned and walked away. The 13-year-old grabbed the girl's hair and began slapping her in the face. The younger girl was arrested.

Dec. 16 Shot in the dark 1:08 a.m. - San Remo Terrace. Suspicious Vehicle. A pickup truck carrying construction material was swerving while it approached the Siesta Drive bridge. Once at the apex of the bridge, the driver stopped, although there's not much to see at 1 a.m.

Dec. 7 Unusual campaign strategy 11:15 a.m. - 7300 block of South Tamiami Trail. Suspicious Incident. A political party volunteer reported a man walked into the party headquarters and rambled about bad "guys," the Bible and Benjamin Netanyahu bringing guns to The White House. The man called himself Christ and called President Obama the anti-Christ. During the conversation, the employee determined that the real reason for the man's visit was to inquire about running for office.

Nov. 24 Fault line 12:04 a.m. - South Tamiami Trail and Vamo Way. DUI. A woman from Charlotte County was clocked driving 68 mph in a 45 mph zone, and a deputy stopped her. The woman had a strong odor of alcohol on her breath and had bloodshot eyes. She failed a sobriety test, and on her way to jail she told police, 'It's not my fault. I didn't even want to drive to Sarasota.'

Nov. 21 Jeez, Mom! 1 p.m. - 1 block of Bayfront Drive. Miscellaneous. A woman reported that her son locked himself in his room on a 32-foot sailboat and refused to come out. She said he had just broken up with his girlfriend and was upset. When an officer knocked on his door, he opened it and said he was upset and just wanted to be alone.

Nov. 8 Two-timer 10:28 a.m. - 2000 block of Main Street. General Suspicion. A man asked an attorney to amend his marriage license that was signed in 2006, so it showed their wedding had just occurred. Getting suspicious, the attorney looked a little further into the matter. The man divorced his first wife last July - four years after he married his second wife. The attorney reported the man to police, because he believed he might have committed a crime.

Nov. 2 Breath of fresh air 4:13 p.m. - 2200 block of Ringling Boulevard. Disorderly Intoxication. An officer came across a drunk man lying on the ground. The man spoke slowly and was unable to stand. But it was not beer, wine or liquor that the man had consumed. The officer discovered the man was intoxicated from Listerine, which was determined from his fresh breath and the half-empty mouthwash bottle in his backpack.

Oct. 24 Take me to your leader 11:39 p.m. - 1800 block of South Tamiami Trail. Suspicious Person. A caller reported that a person on a bicycle was looking into store windows. The suspect was wearing a football jersey and a green alien mask. Or was it a mask?

Oct. 10 Act your age 4 p.m. - 5100 block of Ocean Boulevard. Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer. A 50-year-old tourist was causing a disturbance in a bar, cursing at patrons and employees and throwing quarters at people. Deputies asked her to step outside, but she refused and cursed at them. They finally got her outside, but she refused to sit down or answer questions. She also continued to swear at them. She was arrested but refused to walk to a deputy's car. So, she was carried, at which time she kicked a deputy in the shin. At the jail, she also threatened to kick corrections officers.

Oct. 3 Easy there, Arnold Palmer 12:12 a.m. - 3400 block of Fruitville Road. Reckless Driving. An apartment resident said a teenager was speeding through the complex on a golf cart and almost hit a child. Of course, one question is why is a small child standing in a parking lot at midnight?

Sept. 21 Shutter speed 9:54 p.m. - 1600 block of South Tamiami Trail. Petit Theft. A restaurant owner had placed his laptop on a counter at the back of his restaurant. It sat just below an open window. The restaurant was closed, and the owner and his sister were the only ones in the building, but the computer was stolen. The owner believes someone may have reached through the window and grabbed it.

A security guard on routine patrol noticed a puff of smoke coming from the top level of a parking garage. He didn't know if a fire had started, so he investigated. When he reached the top level, he saw three teenagers riding their bikes down the garage ramp.

A man in a fast-food restaurant drive-thru paid for his order with a $50 bill. He received $42.87 in change. The man drove around the building and pulled into the drive-thru again to order a couple of more hamburgers. Again, he pulled out a $50 bill to pay, but the employee said she didn't have enough change and asked if he had any smaller bills. He said he didn't, and she replied that she had just given him $42.87 in change a few seconds ago.

After the air conditioning in an apartment unit broke down, the apartment manager moved that tenant into an unoccupied unit. After the A/C was fixed, the tenant moved back into his apartment but called the manager a short time later saying the A/C was still not working. The manager inspected the air conditioner and told sheriff's deputies that it looked like it was intentionally punctured.
