The members of the Palm Island Neighborhood Association held their annual picnic in the newly renovated Elsie Blair Park Saturday, Feb. 25. The association recently received a grant from the Sarasota County Neighborhood Grant Program to renovate the park, which had become overgrown. Volunteers donated over 500 hours of work clearing overgrowth, adding pavers, creating flowerbeds, constructing new benches and a sign and adding decorative totem statues.

Phoenix Academy celebrates Black History Month

Phoenix Academy presented its tribute to Black History Month, Let it Shine Friday, Feb. 24 at Sarasota High School. Students read poems and acknowledged the accomplishments of African Americans, and audience members enjoyed performances by the Greatness Beyond Measure Choir and the Phoenix Academy Choral Ensemble.
