The black and white ball at Sarasota Yacht club on Saturday, Aug. 11 was classy - or as classy as 'evening casual' can be. Some guests wore suit jackets, button downs and cummerbunds with shorts and high socks. Other couples dressed the better half in eveningwear and the worse half in casual.

PHOTO GALLERY: Root beer floats at the fire station

Town Hall of Longboat Key's Trish Granger and Lisa Silvertooth hosted the first root beer float Friday on Aug. 10. They brought root beer float makings to the north end fire station and hosted a short get-together for Longboat Key firemen and policemen. Non-duty police officers joined the firemen where the typically hard-working servicemen took a load off and got their floats on. It was a relaxing fifteen minutes of fun jokes and root beer floats. The Town Hall employees even hand-delivered the makings for the on-duty servicemen that couldn't leave their posts. They plan to host these special fun Fridays every week.
