Now in its 21st year, Savor Sarasota Restaurant Week is actually a two-week period where more than 50 restaurants offer prix fixe menus that give locals the chance to step out of their comfort zone and try new dishes for affordable prices. Lunch menus are just $25 per person and dinner offerings are $45 during what many locals call “the most wonderful time of year.” Runs through June 14.

You may know singer Eartha Kitt as the sultry siren who sang “Santa Baby,” a 1950s holiday ditty that lives forever on the internet. Or maybe you remember her as Catwoman from the 1960s TV series “Batman.” One thing is sure: You’ve never seen the glamorous entertainer backstage as Eartha Mae, a country girl from South Carolina who became a citizen of the world. Jade Wheeler created and stars in this show with spirited piano accompaniment by Catherine Stornetta. Runs through June 21.

The Schmitz Brothers Band will play classic rock, blues and country as the featured attraction at the monthly, free, music series and block party. Funds raised at the event will benefit the Suncoast American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association. The event includes food vendors, beer and wine trucks, sponsor booths, and games and activities for kids (presented by Grace Community Church). Guests are welcome to bring chairs, but no coolers.

Created by Kelly Haramis and Kallista Schneiderman, the show tries to right the real-life wrong of Haramis not being cast in a high school production of “Grease.” Joining Kallista Schneiderman on stage will be her father, Davis Schneiderman, the new president of Ringling College of Art and Design, and Nora Sharman. The public concerts of the Sarasota Music Festival kick off with "Beethoven & Mendelssohn," which includes faculty members Alan Stepansky on cello, Peter Kolkay on bassoon, David Bowlin on violin and Teng Li on viola. Despite its title highlighting male masters, the program also features works by two female composers — Florence Price's "Adoration" and Amy Beach's Piano Quintet.

Winner of last year’s Audience Choice Award at the Squeaky Wheel Fringe, Tania Vergara Dance Theatre returns with “Casa Havana.” Set in modern-day Cuba, the piece tells the story of three siblings and their mother. The mother is anguished by her fear of the government and worries that her children could be punished for making their views known.

Those want to see pianist Michael Stephen Brown, who debuted his composition, "The Carnival of the Endangered Wonders" in Sarasota in April, can catch him at the Sarasota Music Festival. In the concert, "Mozart and Schumann," he'll perform Robert Schumann's Piano Quartet. The program also includes SMF faculty artists Alan Stepansky on cello, Mark Nuccio on clarinet and Andreas Oeste on oboe. Festival runs through June 13.

An ensemble consisting of some familiar faces from The Sarasota Players community theater will present "The Pep Rally: A 'Religious' Variety Show." In this multi-genre show, the protagonist Ezra Mathers returns to his Christian college to lead a homecoming pep rally. Ezra has an ax to grind because he was never cast in any shows when he was in school.

Each of the nine shows at the annual Squeaky Wheel Fringe Festival gets two performances, but only one gets a third — the winner of the Audience Choice Award. Last year, Tania Vergara Dance Theatre took home the honor for its multidisciplinary piece, “Paradox of the Mirror.” Vergara is back this year with “Casa Havana.” Will the dance troupe repeat or will another show claim the top honor?

Thomas Carabasi’s New Standards Quartet raises percussion to a new level as it blends favorites from the American and Brazilian songbooks with originals. In addition to Carabasi on drums, the quartet features Alejandro Arenas on bass, Perry Chiles on sax/flute and Patrick Bettison on keys.
