In honor of veteran's day, Rear Admiral Steve Branham retired in July 2010 after working for the U.S. Coast Guard for 37 years stopped by the Republican Club of Longboat Key on Friday, Nov. 11 at the Sarasota Yacht Club. He talked to the group about protecting the shores and our freedom.

PHOTO GALLERY: Make A Mark

Santa, or David Jennings, ditched his sleigh for an opti boat at the Make A Mark race at Sarasota Yacht Club on Friday, Nov. 4 against other costume-clad sponsors and yacht club commodores. The fundraiser and kick-off for the Sarasota Yacht Club Invitational Regatta supports Sarasota Youth Sailing, and the young sailors helped racers and judged the event. There was also a silent auction and buffet for the event.

The Garden Club comes back to life from the off-season and hosts a welcome back party at Bay Isles Beach Club on Thursday, Nov. 3. Members brought appetizers and drinks and enjoyed a sunset happy hour. And, of course, there were great floral arrangements on every picnic table.

Athlete of the Week: Eddie Rodriguez

Eddie Rodriguez is the new head golf pro at the Longboat Key Club and Resort. The 40-year-old is originally from West Palm Beach but moved in 1993 to Sarasota.
