The U.S. Under-17 Men's National Team defeated Brazil 3-1 to win the 2011 Nike International Friendlies Dec. 4 at the Premier Sports Campus at Lakewood Ranch. It was the first time the U.S. had won the tournament. Rubio Rubin gave the U.S. a 1-0 lead two minutes into the match, scoring a goal off an assist from Shaquell Moore on the first shot of the game. Brazil scored a goal of its own 10 minutes later before Tyler Turner and Wesley Wade, off an assist from Junior Flores, both found the back of the net late in the first half to give the U.S. a 3-1 lead, which it never relinquished. The U.S. received the championship trophy following the game. Brazil finished second with four points while France finished in third place with three points from three ties. Turkey, who was last year's tournament champion, finished in fourth place.

A cannon boomed and the lights flickered on. One boat was decked in classic white strands around its rails with red Christmas bows on every pole. It and the rest of the Bird Key Yacht club boats let their little lights shine after a ceremonial blessing from Rev. Red Robinson, of Church of the Redeemer Episcopal, on Saturday, Dec. 3.
