Farmers Market takes root on Ranch Main

Dozens of residents ready for fresh produce were waiting in line as the Lakewood Ranch Farmers Market opened for the 2010 season Nov. 13. The market features fresh fruits and vegetables, live music, refreshments and a myriad of other products. The market will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturdays, through April 9, 2011.

From inflatable obstacle courses and carnival games to performances and plenty of treats, Tara Elementary School students and families enjoyed a day of fun at the school's Fall Festival Nov. 13. The event also featured an auction for baskets created by classes at Tara.

Ranch Rotary uncorks annual Wine Fest

Thousands ate, drank and were merry at the ninth annual Suncoast Food & Wine Fest Nov. 13 at the Sarasota Polo Club. The event featured more than 300 American and international wines as well as food from more than 35 area restaurants.

Veterans dedicate San Marco memorial

Organizers of the Veterans Memorial Park at San Marco Plaza hosted a dedication ceremony Nov. 13 at the park. Memorial Board of Directors members Dr. Stanley Appel, Richard Allen, Delbert Hyland, Robert Moffa, David Neff, William Wallace and Pamela Hager Rice honored local veterans with several awards throughout the ceremony.

Paws on parade for 'pink cause'

Hundreds of dogs and their owners gathered at Central Park in Lakewood Ranch Nov. 13 for the Paws for the Pink Cause event. Festivities included a dog costume parade, raffles and other activities. Proceeds from the event benefited Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.

'Tropical Dreams' fashion show benefits Adopt-A-Family

Dreams came true Nov. 6 during the "Tropical Dreams" Fashion Show and Luncheon at Stoneybrook in Heritage Harbour. The sixth annual event, which was sponsored by Stoneybrook's Dining Out Club, raised more than $5,500 for Adopt-A-Family of Manatee.

Students at Braden River Middle School celebrated Veterans Day with a special Veterans Day Flag Raising Ceremony Nov. 10 in the school's courtyard. The event featured patriotic performances by band, chorus and orchestra students, guest speakers and the unveiling of a new commemorative tile for the Veterans Wall of Honor, among other activities.
