Sarasota Police have reopened the eastbound segment of Fruitville Road following a serious crash earlier Sunday afternoon that sent a motorcyclist to the hospital with critical injuries.

A tweet from the department at 7:08 p.m. indicated the lanes between Beneva Road and McIntosh Road had been reopened. The crash, which took place around 3:50 p.m. at the intersection of Midwest Parkway and Fruitville Road, remains under investigation, police said.

A spokeswoman for Sarasota Police reported the motorcycle, driving east on Fruitville, collided with a pickup truck. The motorcyclist was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries, the spokeswoman reported.

This is a developing story and will be updated with further information when available.
