Longboat Key Obituaries: May 4, 2017

Henry Glitzen, Maureen Hollingsworth, Lieselotto Orhon, Stanley Pelletz and Maryann Tata died.

+Henry J. Gitzen

Henry Gitzen, 92, of Bradenton and formerly, Longboat Key, died April 23.

 

+Maureen Hollingsworth

Maureen Daly Hollingsworth, 86, of Sarasota, died April 22.

She was a career IBM employee who rose from the secretary pool to senior marketing in IBM’s overseas operations.

Early in her life, Maureen lived in Trumansburg and Interlaken, N.Y. During her time with IBM, she lived in New York City and Armonk, N.Y. She retired with her husband John Hollingsworth to Longboat Key.

She is survived by her siblings Monica Cannon, Michael, Dan and John Daly; numerous nieces, nephews and several cousins in Ireland.


+Lieselotto “Lilo” Orhon

Lilo Orhon, 84, died on April 21.

She was born in Germany on Nov. 17, 1932.

She lived in Turkey for many years before moving to the United States in 1970. She raised her family in Springfield, Ohio, before she and her husband moved to Longboat Key.

Lilo was known for her fashion sense and good humor. She enjoyed gardening, spending time with family and friends at the beach and watching the sun set over the Gulf of Mexico.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Necdet Orhon.

She is survived by her son, Niko Kurkcu; daughters Semra Hughes and Asli Orhon; and son-in-law Tim Hughes.

+Stanley J. Pelletz

Stanley Pelletz, 84, of Longboat Key, died April 24.

He was born in Worcester, Mass., to Albert and Rose Pelletz.

He was a manufacturer of plastic housewares. He was a founder of the Congregation of Humanistic Judaism in Sarasota. He was involved in many charities and sat on the boards of CHJ, Family Promise and Camp Young Judea.

He was preceded in death by his son, Steven and sister, Audrey.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; sons Marc and David; four grandchildren; and one great granddaughter.

+ Maryann Tata

Maryann Tata, 81, of Longboat Key, died April 24.

She was born on July 14, 1935 in New Britain, Conn., to Mae and Ernest Hanson.

She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Mount Holyoke College and later studied at Florida Atlantic University where she earned her master’s degree in education. She taught at Addison Mizner and Citrus Cove elementary schools.

Throughout her retirement, Maryann volunteered at the Friends of Boynton Beach Library and the Longboat Library. For the past three years, Maryann and her husband of 59 years, Robert, spent their time making friends at Freedom Village in Bradenton.

She is survived by her husband, Robert; children Virginia Phillips, Amy Winslow and Steven Tata; their spouses; seven grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Longboat Library, 555 Bay Isles Road.
