The Longboat Key Planning and Zoning Board is down one member.

On June 29, George Symanski resigned from the seven-member board because he will be relocating from the Key.

In a June 30 letter, Board Chairwoman B.J. Bishop thanked Symanski for his 13 years of service to the town, praising him for his guidance and his “commitment to ensuring that projects and legislation submitted to the board for review were appropriate and in the best interest of the Town of Longboat Key and its citizens.”

“You have generously given up your own time to support the vision of the Town and its future,” Bishop wrote. “It is with regret that we are losing you as a member of the board, but we wish you and your family all the best for the future.”

Symanski was serving a three-year term, which began in May 2015.

According to Town Clerk Trish Granger, the town will begin advertising for Symanski’s replacement in August. This replacement will serve the remainder of Symanksi’s term, which ends in May 2018.

The Town Commission will consider candidates at the group’s regular meeting on September 11, Granger said, adding that commissioners will have the option to select a candidate or continue advertising.

A final submission date for candidates has not yet been determined, Granger said.

The town accepts applications for advisory boards year round. To apply, send a letter of interest and resume to Town Clerk Trish Granger at Longboat Key Town Hall, 501 Bay Isles Road, Longboat Key, 34228, or via email at [email protected].
