THURSDAY, JAN. 28

The Lakewood Ranch boys soccer team begins its postseason march when it hosts Wiregrass Ranch at 7 p.m. in a Class 5A-Region 2 quarterfinal match. The Mustangs, who won their fourth-straight district title Jan. 22,  haven't lost a match since Nov. 9. The winner will advance to the regional semifinals Feb. 2. 

 

FRIDAY, JAN. 29 

A couple of high-scoring junior guards are in the spotlight. The Out-of-Door Academy’s Kolbie Ward and Braden River’s Deoni Cason are both averaging in double figures with Ward pouring in a season-high 31 points last week against Sarasota Christian and Cason averaging 16.1 points per game. The two close out the regular season when the Thunder hosts the Pirates at 7:30 p.m.

 

SATURDAY, JAN. 30 

The Lakewood Ranch boys basketball team travels to Riverview at 7 p.m. to take on a Rams team that is ranked No. 1 in Class 8A in the Florida Association of Basketball Coaches/Source Hoops state rankings. The Mustangs only have  lost four games this season — all against ranked opponents in Florida and Ohio — while posting an average margin of victory of 26.1 points per game. 

 

TUESDAY, FEB. 2

The Braden River softball team welcomes the start of the regular season at 6:30 p.m. when the Pirates host Riverview. Led by 12 upperclassmen, seven who have signed or verbally committed to play college softball, Braden River has the experience to compete with a Rams team that reached the regional tournament last season.
