“This is the most prestigious honor any circus member or family can ever receive. My brother and I are honored to accept this for our dad.” — Bonnie Nicholas-Shine, daughter of Count Nicholas.

St. Armands Circle was filled with circus performers and appreciators at the 29th annual Circus Ring of Fame Jan. 10.

The event, which was established in 1987, honors those who have influenced the circus industry. This year’s five honorees bring the Ring of Fame’s total to 125.

This year’s inductees:

  • Kenny Dodd: Dodd served as producing clown of Clyde Beatty-Cole Bros. Circus and currently chronicles and archives circus history.
  • The Hamid Family: George Hamid Sr. founded the Hamid-Morton Circus. The Hamid legacy continued for four generations, with George Jr., James Sr. and James Hamid Jr. all following in George Hamid Sr.’s footsteps.
  • Count Nicholas: Angelo “Count” Nicholas was one of the world’s most famous ringmasters.
  • George Scott: Seventh-generation circus performer George Scott became famous for “The Scott’s Unrideable Mule,” with partner, Nebraska the mule.
  • Jumbo: The Ring of Fame’s first ever animal inductee, Jumbo was the first international animal celebrity during his time with P.T. Barnum from 1882 to 1885.
