As swiftly as sailboats glide across the water, so did the paint brushes of the SRQ Plein Painters.

The artists, sponsored by The Renaissance School of Art, gathered at the Sarasota Sailing Squadron on Dec. 10 to do a “quick draw” event. They had two-and-a-half hours to complete a painting of a scene of their choosing around the Sarasota Sailing Squadron. They drew inspiration from the Sarasota Bay and the sailboats docked around the squadron.

Once the paintings were complete, Vlad Yeliseyev and Joseph Melancon of The Renaissance School of Art judged the paintings. The paintings then went on sale to the public. A portion of the money raised when to the Sarasota Sailing Squadron.

A donated piece by Yeliseyev, a co-founder of the school, was also on display and raffled to a lucky winner.
