A car theft and a string of auto burglaries that appear to be solved with four arrests Sept. 30 aren’t the only burglary cases the Longboat Key Police Department is dealing with.

Two home burglaries were reported Sept. 25.

A woman reported 1:44 p.m. Sept. 25 that when she and her family returned home from the beach, someone gained access to the house through an unlocked sliding glass door in the pool area and stole a jewelry box with jewelry inside valued at more than $4,000, a $10,500 men’s Rolex watch and $350 in cash from a wallet. The house was dusted for fingerprints and there is no further information on the crime at this time.

Later that day, a couple reported 6:44 p.m. Sept. 25 that when they arrived home in the 500 block of Sutton Place, the garage door was open and so was the door in the garage that leads to their kitchen. The couple reported their red 2006 Mercedes Benz was missing from the garage. They reported they are having problems with their son, who is in the process of moving out, and has keys and access to their home.

Longboat Key Police Chief Pete Cumming said the burglaries aren’t linked to the recent car theft and car burglary suspects.

“We have some leads we are working on these cases and have high hopes of arresting suspects in these cases,” Cumming said.
