Jan. 19
Fleeing from police
Intersection of State Road 70 East and Interstate 75. Eluding a Traffic Stop. Police initiated a traffic stop for speeding on Interstate 75 but the driver of the car sped off and the officer terminated the traffic stop. A car with its lights off was soon seen on the side of the highway, and police discovered it was the same driver who fled from police. He was arrested for failing to stop.

Jan. 20
Theft trick
11:40 a.m. — 2900 block of 53rd Avenue East. Theft. A woman was caught trying to return three acne products valued at $95.76 that were stolen from the store. She was transported to jail.

Father knows best
5:37 p.m. — 6500 block of Lincoln Road. Burglary. A man told police someone broke into the storage unit under his main house and stole a guitar, while leaving other items of value behind. The man told police he believes his son is the culprit because he’s the only one who could get in the storage unit without the dog attacking him.

Jan. 21
Tough break
3:56 p.m. — 7300 block of 52nd Place East. Burglary. A man reported someone damaged his driver’s side door handle and lock cylinder while attempting to break into his truck in a store parking lot.

Hardware halt
7:05 p.m. — 7300 block of 52nd Place East. Theft. A hardware store loss-prevention officer told police he had in custody a man who tried to exit the store with a $129.98 item that he stuffed in his pants.

Jan. 23
Caught on camera
3:39 a.m. — 15100 block of 59th Avenue East. Burglary. An electric company reported that a video camera with a live feed showed two men wearing jeans and hooded sweatshirts were inside one of the company’s fenced facilities. One of the men was holding copper wire valued at $600. The men fled the area with the copper before police arrived.

Drop-off debacle
8:11 a.m. — 6300 block of State Road 70 East. Trespass Warning. Police pulled over a woman for trying to drop her daughter off at high school at the wrong campus to avoid the line of cars. The woman drove off after receiving a warning from an officer, and then she ran a stop sign where students were crossing. The officer pulled her over again and gave her another warning. She was also trespassed from the school campus and directed to the correct campus. The officer called the high school to excuse the daughter’s tardy for being late because of her mother’s actions.

Panhandling problem
12:58 p.m. — 2800 block of University Parkway. Trespassing. A grocery store manager reported that a family was panhandling in the parking lot. The manager also had concerns about the family’s small children stepping into nearby traffic. The family agreed to leave the area.

On the run
3:42 p.m. — 13300 block of Swallowtail Drive. Lost Property. A woman called to report her dog had gotten loose. She said the dog sitter discovered that a hatch on the bottom of the door became unhinged and a strong gust of wind pushed the door open, allowing one of her two dogs to run away.

Jan. 24
Search and seizure
12:39 a.m. — 7800 block of Eagle Creek Drive. Suspicious Circumstance. Police smelled marijuana emanating from a vehicle with four occupants and approached the car to investigate. Police found a blue glass marijuana pipe with burnt marijuana inside and seized it. The occupants had no arrest warrants, and police seized the pipe.

 

 

 

 

Burglar breaks down door
3:53 a.m. — 7700 block of Plantation Circle. Vehicle Burglary. While a woman was at the hospital with her husband, she reported someone kicked in her front door and stole miscellaneous jewelry from her bedroom. The sliding glass door was also found unlocked and police believe the suspect exited the house through the back.

Loud argument
9:28 p.m. — 22200 block of 27th Avenue East. Domestic Disturbance. Neighbors called the police on a couple having a loud argument. They told police it was only a verbal argument.
