Sailors bounce back from loss

After losing to Lakewood Ranch Dec. 3, Sarasota defeated Braden River Dec. 8.

The Sarasota High girls basketball team was held to just 19 points, its lowest output of the season, during its Class 7A-District 11 game at Lakewood Ranch Dec. 3. 

The host Mustangs went on to win the game 56-19. Josie LeBlanc had 11 points to lead the way for the Sailors. 

Earlier in the week, Sarasota opened district play with a 49-34 victory against Venice Dec. 1. 

Imani Jones and Ja’da Bennett both finished in double figures with 11 points and 10 points, respectively. Madison Pack hauled in 10 rebounds and contributed four steals. Bennett added six boards, four assists and five steals. 

Sarasota returned to the court Dec. 8, for the first time since its district loss last week, and cruised to a 59-25 district victory against Braden River. 

DeQuandra Hill recorded a double-double for Sarasota, finishing with 16 points and 14 rebounds. She also added four assists and three steals. 

Imani Jones added 15 points for the Sailors. 

Sarasota (9-2 overall, 2-1 7A-11) returns to district action at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 10 versus Palmetto.
