It was the first prospect camp for CJ Obaseki. And he left with his first offer from a college football program. The rising sophomore running back at Riverview High impressed the University of Miami enough June 17 to earn an offer. In 2025, he didn't record a carry for the Rams, but projects to be involved in their ground game this fall following the transfer of Toryeon James and graduation of Isaiah Belt. Obaseki, standing at 6-foot-1 and 200 pounds, is the Sarasota Athlete of the Week.
What does it mean for Miami to be your first offer?
It's definitely something special. Me and my dad (Joe Obaseki), we really like Miami. I remember whenever we played (EA Sports) College Football, I'd always play as (the Hurricanes).
What are your goals for this fall with Riverview?
I want to rush for 2,000 yards for my season total, and to ultimately make a meaningful impact on the game.
When and why did you start playing football?
I started playing when I was 10 (years old). My brother (Noah Obaseki), he was really good at football. I always liked watching him, and my dad was like, "Give it a try."
How did you gravitate to running back as your position?
I'm really big. I like running through people.
How would you describe the passion you have for this sport?
I love weightlifting a lot, so it's nice getting stronger and then putting it into something like football. I've definitely fallen in love with it.
What's a fun fact about you not many people know?
I'm really into marine science.
Who is your favorite professional athlete and why?
Saquon Barkley. I like the way he runs.
Other than attending camps, do you have any fun summer plans?
I hang out with my friends a lot. We have a lake house, so it's nice to be able to relax when I can.
If you could go anywhere for a dream vacation, where would you go and why?
Africa. I have a lot of family there (on my dad's side).
If you had to eat one food for the rest of your life, what would you eat and why?
Steak. I just really love a good steak.
If you could have any superpower, what would you choose and why?
Super strength.
What music helps you get in the zone during practice or before a game?
I like rock music like Nirvana.
