John Anderson, 89, formerly of Longboat Key, died July 30.

Mr. Anderson managed the Holiday Inn on Longboat Key from 1974 until his retirement in 1990.

Born Nov. 12, 1925 in Memphis, Tenn, Mr. Anderson grew up in Holly Springs, Miss. He graduated from Holly Springs High School and attended Mississippi State University after serving in World War II as a radioman in the U.S. navy aboard the battleship USS New Mexico.

Mr. Anderson had a long and successful career in the hotel industry, first owning and managing the Corinth Motel in Corinth, Miss. He then served in several managerial positions with the Brock Hotel Corp., including regional manager and general manager of the Holiday Inn Midtown in Bowling Green, Ky. and the Holiday Inn Longboat Key,

Mr. Anderson is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jane Stafford Anderson, a native of Holly Springs; daughters, Marjorie Anderson, of Jalisco, Mexico, Nancy Anderson Wilcutt, of Glasgow, Ky., and Deborah Anderson Morse, of Black Mountain, N.C.; sons, John Anderson III, of Spartanburg, S.C., and Jeffery Anderson, of Bowling Green, Ky.; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation, services and burial were held on Aug. 3, in Holly Springs.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ Church of Longboat Key, Presbyterian or the John E. Anderson Scholarship Fund at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Ky.
