Eleven-year-old wins designated championship
Eleven-year-old Nikki Yanez won the USTA Florida Level 5 Jaimes Tennis Girls 12s championship Nov. 22 through Nov. 24, in Pembroke Pines.

Yanez, who entered the tournament as the No. 2 seed, went 44-10 in her five matches. Yanez defeated No. 3 seed Ariel Johnson 6-2, 6-0 in the finals to win the singles championship.

With the win, Yanez captured her second Level 5 tournament championship in four months. She also won the North Florida Level 5 tournament in July, in Tallahassee.

Yanez returned to the court Nov. 26 in the Eddie Herr International Championships, at IMG Academy.
Yanez won her opening-round qualifier 6-3, 7-6(8) before falling 6-4, 6-4 in the second round.

+ Lady Sailors basketball sinks rival Lady Rams
The Sarasota High girls basketball team defeated rival Riverview 57-31 in non-district action Nov. 25.
Sarasota senior Camille Giardina led all scorers with 19 points. She also had six assists, four rebounds and three steals. Sophomore Ja’da Bennett added 13 points and five rebounds. Sophomore Madison Pack contributed nine points while hauling in eight boards. Senior Zharia Grable finished with eight points, eight assists, three rebounds, two steals and a block.

Brittany Horne led Riverview with 11 points and six rebounds. Juhnae Richardson added seven points, two rebounds, two assists and two blocks.

+ McMahon leads Cougars basketball to a win
Ryan McMahon scored 31 points and added five assists to lead the Cardinal Mooney boys basketball team to a 91-80 victory over Tampa Catholic Nov. 25.

Richard Krupa finished with 21 points, four assists and two steals. Justin Najmy added 12 points. Mitch Arimura had 10 points and four rebounds. Tommy Rao contributed nine points and five rebounds.

+ Eagles soar to victory
The Sarasota Military Academy girls basketball team defeated Port Charlotte Community Christian 48-21 Nov. 25.

Freshman Leah Thostenson scored 19 points to lead the way for the Eagles. Junior Brayden Einhaus added 15 points. Junior Ashley Allen finished with nine points.

+ Booker breezes past Cardinal Mooney
The Booker High girls basketball team cruised to a 53-27 victory over Cardinal Mooney Nov. 25.

Yamaris Guevarez led all scorers with 19 points. Arie Bass had 10 points, 15 rebounds and two blocks for the Lady Tornadoes. Ssenc Randall added six points and 11 rebounds.

Emily Walser led Cardinal Mooney with 10 points, seven rebounds and seven steals. Abbey Donofrio added seven points.

+ ODA blanks Sarasota Christian girls soccer
The Out-of-Door Academy girls soccer team defeated Sarasota Christian 4-0 in district action Nov. 24.
Katie Lang scored a pair of goals to lead the way for the Lady Thunder. Katherine Pacitti and Natalie Gorgi each had a goal. Goalkeeper Abby Bannar earned the shutout for ODA with five saves.

+ Sarasota Christian notches easy win
The Sarasota Christian girls basketball team cruised to a 46-8 victory over Universal Academy of Tampa Nov. 25.

Heidi Miller led the way for the Lady Blazers with 14 points. McKenzie Lantz finished with 13 points, and Amber Schrag added six points.
