+ Mote receives Publix marine science grant
Publix Super Markets Charities presented a $12,500 grant to Mote Marine Laboratory July 28, for scholarships to help underserved students in the Sarasota area participate in Mote’s informal science education programs. Grant funds will help students in kindergarten through 12th grade visit Mote for programs about marine science and coastal ecology.

+ MSC Foundation awards charitable grants
The MSC Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Michael Saunders & Co., awarded its midyear charitable grants in a July 17 presentation, at the company’s Lakewood Ranch office.

Leaders of 33 nonprofit organizations that focus primarily on Sarasota, Manatee and Charlotte counties received grants totaling $34,250. Grants are funded by agents, who voluntarily donate a portion of their commissions on each real estate transaction, and the company’s staff and leadership team members, who contribute through voluntary payroll deductions throughout the year.

Grants were awarded to the following organizations: ALSO Youth Inc., Big Brothers & Big Sisters of the Sun Coast, Boys & Girls Club of Sarasota County, Community Haven, Crossroads AMI Kids, Englewood Incubation Center Inc. Englewood Helping Hand Inc., Englewood Meals on Wheels Inc., Family Partnership Center, Family Promise of Sarasota Inc., Feeding Empty Little Tummies (FELT), The Florida Center for Early Childhood, Florida Studio Theatre, Foundation for Dreams Inc., Girls Inc. of Sarasota County, Habitat for Humanity Sarasota Inc., HOPE Family Services Inc., The Island School Inc., Jewish Family & Children’s Services of the Sun Coast Inc., Just for Girls Academy, Manatee County Habitat for Humanity, Miracle League Manasota, Mothers Helping Mothers Inc., More Too Life, Safe Place & Rape Crisis Center Inc., Selah Freedom Inc., Sertoma Club of Bradenton, Southeastern Guide Dogs, Teen Court of Sarasota Inc., Turning Points Community Coalition on Homelessness, Venice Nokomis United Methodist Child Care Center, Women’s Sertoma Club of Venice Inc. and Yummy Stuff Club Inc.

+ Harry’s Continental Kitchens to close for summer break
Harry’s Continental Kitchens restaurant and deli, 525 St. Judes Drive, will close from Aug. 18 through Oct. 8, for summer.

Harry’s Corner Store will remain open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. For information, call 383-0777.
