+ Town attorney starts office hours for commission
Town Attorney Maggie Mooney-Portale is instituting office hours for Longboat Key commissioners.

In an April 3 email to commissioners, Mooney-Portale wrote: “…the purpose of establishing these hours is to make myself available to meet with commissioners for in-person discussions. It is my hope that these hours will make it convenient for commissioners to discuss any legal issues or concerns you may have with me.”

At the March 17 workshop, the commission decided the attorney needed more time before she is evaluated because she has only been the town’s attorney for eight months and was on maternity leave.
Office hours for commissioners will be 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays and 9:30 a.m to 12:30 p.m. Wednesdays. Office hours will begin April 9.

+ Police department offers medication disposal
Residents and visitors can now drop off outdated or unwanted prescription medication at the Longboat Key Police Department, 5460 Gulf of Mexico Drive, for destruction. The service is available 24 hours a day, every day.

To dispose of pills, empty containers and place prescription and nonprescription pills and gel gaps into a sealed or tied bag, then place the bag into the bin. Place prescription and nonprescription liquids and inhalers into a bag and place them into the bin.
The service is for individual households only.
