Brenner requests Colony leadership

Vice Mayor David Brenner sent an email to longtime Colony Beach & Tennis Resort owner Dr. Murray “Murf” Klauber on Thursday, urging him to be the real leader behind a Colony settlement that will end years of legal squabbles and allow the resort to be rebuilt.

Referencing an email that Klauber sent to the Longboat Key Town Commission earlier this week that ran in the Longboat Observer, Brenner states that “a rehashing of all the past sins will not solve the Colony mess.”
“There is enough blame to go around,” Brenner wrote.

Brenner explained that “a palatable solution will not come from the courts, nor for that matter, the commission.”

“Your desire for a new Colony that belongs on Longboat Key is well understood,” Brenner wrote. What a unique legacy you could leave us as the father of the Old Colony and the New Colony. You can be the force for that solution. What's needed is real leadership. Not from the outside, but from within. I'm suggesting that you , with the guidance and wise counsel of Charlie Bartlett, convene the warring factions to create the framework for a plan that will again make the Colony a significant part of life on Longboat Key.”

The commission will consider a Colony extension of the resort’s rebuilding timeline at the commission’s 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1 regular meeting at Town Hall, 501 Bay Isles Road.
