+ Bullock contract on workshop agenda
The Longboat Key Town Commission will discuss a more permanent contract with Town Manager David Bullock during its 2 p.m. Thursday, June 21 regular workshop.

Town Attorney David Persson wrote, in a June 13 letter to commissioners, that Bullock has suggested a three-year contract with the potential for two subsequent one-year renewals — an agreement similar to the current contract, which allows the commission the options to renew or not renew. The contract would increase Bullock’s severance pay to 20 weeks’ salary from its current amount of 30 days’ pay if terminated without cause.

Persson wrote that he has received other suggestions from individual discussions with commissioners, including a three-year contract with a three-year renewal and a provision allowing the town manager a cost-of-living increase if other town employees receive a cost-of-living increase.

Bullock’s current contract with the town expires Sept. 15. He receives an annual salary of $180,000 and retirement contribution of 17.8% of his salary.

+ P&Z recommends Future Land Use changes
The Longboat Key Planning & Zoning Board voted to recommend changing the town’s Future Land Use Map to reflect the open-space uses of two town-owned properties during its Tuesday, June 19 meeting. The 0.71-acre property at 4110 Gulf of Mexico Drive is adjacent to Bayfront Park and currently designated as limited commercial. The 5810 Gulf of Mexico Drive property is 3.81 acres and located between the Spanish Main Yacht Club and Emerald Harbor neighborhoods.

+ Weekly Publix progress report
Publix Super Markets Inc. had cranes onsite this week to build the walls of its new Longboat Key store even higher. Scaffolding is in place around the building to allow workers to put concrete masonry blocks in place. CVS continues to make strides toward its new store’s opening and recently installed windows and sliding glass doors on the building.
