Commissioner Phill Younger’s suggestion of reconfiguring the Longboat Key Town Commission to consist of three district seats and four at-large seats will move forward to a future charter review committee for discussion, commissioners agreed at Thursday’s regular workshop.

Younger suggested the idea in September because he felt that the current system of five district seats with two at-large seats limits.

But Commissioner Pat Zunz worried that such changes could result in as many as five commissioners who live in a single area.

Commissioner Hal Lenobel suggested that the idea go to a charter review committee an idea that Vice Mayor David Brenner and commissioners Jack Duncan and Lynn Larson supported.

Although Younger had hoped to get the issue on the ballot for the March 2012, he agreed to support addressing it at a future charter review, saying “Sometimes half a loaf is better than none,” he said.

The commission also reached consensus to resume discussions about forming a charter review committee in early 2012.
