The Longboat Key Planning & Zoning Vision Subcommittee moved a step closer toward its goal of creating vision and mission statements for the town, as well as identifying core values for the town to adopt. The group agreed at today’s meeting to forward with its drafts of a vision statement, mission statement and 10 core values to the Oct. 20 Longboat Key Town Commission regular workshop for further discussion.

The vision statement draft reads:
“Longboat Key is a beautiful place to live, work and visit, where the natural assets of a barrier island combine with cultural and recreational amenities, visionary planning and proactive leadership to enhance your way of life.”

The mission statement draft reads:
“To continue Longboat Key’s status as a premier residential and visitor destination that supports the historic balance between the residential, recreational, tourism and commercial attributes through a commitment to long-term and short-term planning excellence and measurable implementation.”

The 10 core values drafted include strengthening the town’s commitment to maintaining Longboat Key as a premier vacation destination, protecting its natural resources and helping businesses to thrive year-round on the island by encouraging commercial revitalization and development.

The commission workshop will take place at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, at Longboat Key Town Hall, 501 Bay Isles Road.
