Due to a water main break, a boil water advisory has been issued for the area of Gateway Avenue and Superior Avenue.

The break occurred at 8:30 a.m. this morning, interrupting services to about 90 residents. Service was restored by 11 a.m.

According to a press release by County officials, the advisory is precautionary and the county has no reason to believe drinking water was contaminated. Florida law requires drinking water providers to issue advisories to their customers affected by pressure losses in water mains.

The county advises affected residents in the area to boil all tap water for drinking, preparation of food, washing utensils, making ice, brushing teeth, and first aid. Water should be brought to a rolling boil for one minute.

Customers of Sarasota County Utilities in the effected area will be notified by an automated call that the boil water advisory has been canceled.
