OBITUARY: Beatrice Rapowitz

Beatrice Rapowitz, 67, of Longboat Key, died April 21.

Born Nov. 26, 1943, she was principal of the Boces High School in Fairport, N.Y. She and her husband, Bert, moved to Longboat Key from Rochester, N.Y., 16 years ago.

Mrs. Rapowitz volunteered at Sarasota Memorial Hospital and Reach for Recovery, played bridge and golf and relished any fitness challenge that came her way. She founded the Longboat Key Club and Resort’s “Go for the Cure,” a fundraising event for Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, with her friend, Marge Heller, 11 years ago. She died after a 20-year brave and valiant struggle with breast cancer.

Mrs. Rapowitz is survived by her husband, Bert; daughters Trisha Rubin and Kari Becker; stepdaughters Shari Woldenberg and Beth MacCrindle; stepson, Joe Rapowitz; 10 grandchildren; and brother, Jack Bloch, of Longboat Key.
