OBITUARY: Marlene June Gowan

Marlene June Gowan, 73, of Longboat Key, died Oct. 4.

Born Oct. 11, 1936, in Cassopolis, Mich., she attended Michigan State University and married her husband, Bill, in 1956. The Gowans lved in Okemos, Mich., and Mrs. Gowan worked as a bookkeeper for Lifetouch National School Studios until her retirement in 1990.

She spent her retirement time in Michigan and Florida and enjoyed spending time with her family, horses, cooking, reading and crossword puzzles. She is remembered for her warm, hospitable nature, her open door and her home-cooked meal for anyone who stopped by to visit.

Mrs. Gowan was preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by her children John, of Harbor Springs, Mich., and Doug, Brian and Mary Liska, all of Okemos; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service will take place Saturday, Oct. 9, in Curtis, Mich. Messier-Broullire Funeral Home in Manistique, Mich., is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences can be expressed at mbfuneral.com.
