+ Brenner donates funds to foundation
Newly-elected Longboat Key Town Commissioner David Brenner donated his remaining campaign funds Thursday, April 22, to the Longboat Key Kiwanis Club Foundation.

Brenner told Kiwanians at their weekly breakfast he was contributing $458.89 to the foundation for local-student scholarships. Brenner said rather than send all of his contributors their pro-rata share of the remaining funds, he thought it better to contribute the funds to a charity.

+ Jaleski says meeting was informative
Commissioner Gene Jaleski brought along Key resident and former Tropicana attorney Steve Gold to a meeting Tuesday, April 27, at Town Hall with Longboat Key Club and Resort attorney John Patterson.

Patterson and Key Club General Manager Michael Welly asked for one-on-one meetings with all seven commissioners to describe the proposed code amendments, why they are being proposed and what the changes will accomplish.

“We all agreed it was a good, substantive meeting that we profited from,” Jaleski said.

Commissioners Robert Siekmann and David Brenner have declined to hold one-on-one sessions with club officials.

A first reading on the club’s proposed code changes is scheduled at 9 a.m. Monday, May 3, at Town Hall.

+ Free condo foreclosure seminar
The West Florida Chapter of Community Associations Institute (CAI) is sponsoring a free educational program for condominium and homeowners to address the topic of “Mediation: Foreclosure and Enforcement Issues” at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, May 13, at the Girl Scout Council Building’s conference facility at 4780 Cattlemen Road, Sarasota.

A panel of legal experts and a licensed community association manager will address many of the issues community associations are facing with foreclosures in their communities.

All participants must pre-register and seating is limited. For more information and to pre-register, attendees should visit www.caiwestflorida.org or call Ed Tudor at 927-1910.
