The Sarasota Police Department has been recognized as an Accredited Law Enforcement Agency by the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA).

The Sarasota Police Department first achieved recognition as an accredited agency in 2002 and has maintained that status continually and without conditions or restrictions since then.

Maintaining accreditation/reaccredidation has included undergoing an on-site inspection by a team of authorized assessors, annual reports and documentation of compliance to standards. The Sarasota Police Department had on-site CFA inspections in 2005, 2008 and late 2011.

During the on-site inspection, the agency is required to demonstrate documented compliance with all mandatory standards and compliance with at least 80% of non-mandatory standards.

During the most recent on-site inspection, the Sarasota Police Department was found to be in compliance with all measured mandatory standards. The department was in compliance on 149 of the 149 applicable mandatory standards.

The next reaccredidation for which the Sarasota Police Department will be eligible for recognition as an Excelsior Agency. To qualify for excelsior, an agency must maintain accreditation continually for more than 10 years with no restrictions or conditions.

The Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation recognized Alfreda Jackson, accreditation manager for the Sarasota Police Department, for her “steadfastness and exemplary accomplishment in maintaining state reaccreditation for the Sarasota Police Department.”
