Redevelopment on a 22-acre peninsula in the heart of Sarasota is revving up, according to site plans filed with the city Wednesday.

Golden Gate Point Ventures has released renderings for a five-story, 8-unit condominium building in the center of the tony neighborhood. Designed by Sarasota-based Hoyt Architects, the complex will replace three buildings constructed before 1965.

The developer bought the 14,400-square-foot property for nearly $2 million this month. The move begins what some local builders believe will be a trend toward redevelopment.

“We're running out of blank pieces of dirt,” said Golden Gate Point resident and architect Brent Parker in a previous interview with the Sarasota Observer. “Pretty much all the dirt on the water is gone, and it looks like the redevelopment of the center will be the next play.”
