Information only: A deputy saw a pickup truck driver pass another vehicle on a double yellow line zone. The deputy stopped the driver and because of the angle at which both his patrol car and the truck had stopped, the deputy decided to approach the truck on the passenger’s side for safety precautions. The driver began to give the deputy “attitude,” so the deputy called for back-up. He also noticed a child laying in the truck’s backseat without a seatbelt. The deputy wrote up the driver for improper passing and a seatbelt violation. When he was explaining the citations to the driver, the driver began yelling profanities and said “Why can't you speak to me face to face on the driver’s side.” The deputy said he explained the reasoning for the passenger’s side approach and the man was not satisfied.

Child neglect investigation: The Sheriff’s Office investigated a child neglect claim after someone reported a 7-year-old’s caretaker could not provide sufficient supervision. The child has access to and was allowed to use power tools. In October, the boy cut his hand while using an ax. On Feb. 13, the child used a chainsaw and lacerated his leg, requiring 10 stitches. His caretaker does not feel like he has done anything wrong, according to the report. The deputy said in the report the neglect had occurred but did not rise to a criminal level, however the case needs more investigation.
Mouse trap

Retail theft: A man went into a retail store to the electronics department. He selected a computer mouse, took it out of its packaging and put it in his front pocket. Store security witnessed this and stopped him after he attempted to exit the store. The mouse was $42. He was issued a trespass warning and a notice to appear in court.

Information only: A woman came into the Sheriff’s Office to report an interaction she was having on Facebook with the family members of her stepson. The woman had stated her opinion on a friend’s post and the family members reacted and replied, in a way that the woman felt was unwarranted. She gave the Sheriff’s Office copies of the posts and filed a statement.
