Port Dolphin asks for one-year extension

Port Dolphin Energy LLC has again extended its proposed pipeline project by a year, bringing its anticipated commencement date to July 1, 2014, according to a Feb. 28 letter to the Florida Department of Environment and Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission from Port Dolphin Vice President German Castro.

Mullet solution could be catch for food banks

The latest mullet season was the best in memory for many fishermen, but for local residents, the season came with a catch: Fish houses didn't have the capacity to process the number of fish caught by commercial fishermen, and, as a result, fishermen left dead fish behind in the water, many of which washed up on Longboat Key and Anna Maria Island beaches.

Every Saturday and Sunday there are four courts reserved at the Longboat Key Club and Resort Tennis Gardens. Armed with rackets, a group of 16 men ranging in age from early 50s to late 80s play. Some of the guys play on Wednesdays and Thursdays together, too.

Allan Luke started playing hockey when he was old enough to walk across the street to the ice rink. He played until age 50. He's also played softball and coached both AAA division hockey and high school girls fast-pitch softball.
