The Tabernacle Church hosted the Night of Light on Oct. 31, a free family alternative to Halloween. Nearly 1,000 attendees dressed as superheroes as they enjoyed pony rides, hayrides, carnival games, bounce houses, balloons and rock climbing. Food vendors included Chik-Fil-A and Auntie Anne's. The inaugural Night of Light was in 1987.

The students compared soil samples to measure for organic versus inorganic matter and used a turkey baster and a sieve to examine the tanks of bromeliads for microorganisms.
