Brookside Middle School students and the City of Sarasota celebrated Arbor Day Friday, May 2. Local organizations, such as Mote Marine Laboratory, visited the school to help educate students on the importance of nature. After the morning activities, students gathered outside where Mayor Shannon Snyder presented a proclamation declaring May 2 Arbor Day in the City of Sarasota. The celebration also included the planting of three trees, donated by Biological Tree Services, in honor of the school's three grades. 'Just like you, these trees will grow,' said Public Works Department General Manager Todd Kucharski.

Temple Beth Sholom School students stuffed their Hopi tribe dolls Tuesday, April 29. The dolls, known as Kachina, were originally made by the Southwestern Native American tribe the Hopi. Kindergarteners, first and second grade students, led by Nancy Koplin, Shaunna Brady and Barbara O'Brien, have been learning about Native Americans this school year. The students used cotton harvested from the school's garden to stuff the small, colorful dolls.
