Partners promenade for Family Promise

East County residents Kurt and Lichi Fowler hosted an old-fashioned square dance Feb. 27 at their home as a fundraiser for Family Promise of Manatee County. The event featured food, fires, fellowship and, of course, plenty of dancing.

Longboat Key resident and Iwo Jima survivor Martin Samowitz was there when the U.S. Marine Corps raised the flag that became an iconic image of WW II. The 65th anniversary of Iwo Jima was Feb. 19, and the anniversary of the flag raising over Mount Suribachi was four days later, on Feb. 23.
