Temple members circle for leadership dedication

A champagne brunch held Jan. 9 at Temple Beth Israel honored more than 150 members of its Leadership Circle. Temple President Earl Gordon thanked them for their financial support that enables the enrichment and enlivenment of temple life throughout the year. The unveiling of the expanded leadership plaque was a highlight of the evening.

All Angels celebrates epiphany moment

Members of All Angels by the Sea Episcopal Church celebrated the Feast of Epiphany with a potluck supper on the 12th day after Christmas, Jan. 6. The Social Committee, headed by Phil Krei,s was in change of arrangements. The evening concluded with a carol sing-a-long led by Music Director Dale Hooey.

Temple Emanu-El observes tradition

Christmas Eve fell on a Friday, which gave 150 Temple Emanu-El members, including many Longboat Key residents, a chance to combine two traditions: Friday night Sabbath services and Shabbat dinners with a "traditional" Jewish Christmas Eve meal of Chinese food.

Here's a unique Christmas tradition: Every year, a group of Lido residents and visitors trek to Lido Beach, where they set up tables, food and Christmas trees and take pictures of beachwalkers so that they'll have a keepsake to take home.

Home for the holidays

It was standing-room only Dec. 29 at Kip O'Neill's Village home for her annual holiday open house. Greeting guests with O'Neill were her grandsons, Luke and Andrew Moriarty. In addition to longtime residents, guests included several new residents who were warmly welcomed. Outside but unable to crash the party were several members of the Village's flock of peacocks.
